MERRY CHRISTMAS & A PECEAFUL 2008 YEARTalking a little about Cândida Monteiro Fontes, an exemplar person, a special mother and an appriciated friend. My mother was born at Cova Figueira, Island of Fogo, Cabo Verde, on November 17th, 1907. She is a daughter of Eduardo Monteiro Fontes and Carolina Monteiro Fontes. She had six brothers: Quinquim, Souzinha, Branquinho, Raúl, Jaime, and Leite; e eight sisters: Quina, Dóia, Nica, Baí, Dileche, Maria, Linda e Nhamina. In the year 1922, when she was a little girl she had the oppurtunity to go and live with her sister Doia in Santiago, more precisly at Santa Catarina. There she learned how to read and write, afterward she retured back to Cova Figueira. She married to Anibal Vieira Fontes on 21st of May, 1938, and from this marriage were borne two children, Heramana and Quinquim, and three adoptive daughetrs, Maria, Niquinha, and Cunina; three Grandchildren: Filomena, Fátima and Steven; five Great Greatchildren: o Timmy, Sárah, Stéphany, Érica, Emily, and many lovely nepweus and nieces. During these hundred years of my mother’s life logicaly there were many moments of happiness and moments of sadness: Periodos of hapiness like her youth, marriage, raising of children, feasts, traveling etc were always harmoniously celebrated with the family and friends. She directed her life always in the spirity of the Criator and of a good social economic planing; she fulfiled her desires and knew how to share with the family and friends and never forgot to give thanks to God. Periodos of sadness as death of beloved persons, like the loss of her adored daughter Hermana in Cova Figueira, Cabo Verde, and more recentelly about two years ago the passing of her always remembered and beloved sister Dileche, left deep mark on in her heart. But even tghoug and inspite of the circunstances, she never forgot to continue her unbreakable believe or faith in God, always giving thanks for the gift of life. If there is a receipe for longevity, I think that my mother’s book of life has something related about it. The way she live life shows well the desire, wish, and perseverance to go on acepting live with all its imperfection but, making everything she can that the obstcles be contoned one way or another and never forget to say sorry and spreading in the way sublims wishes to help the neighbour. In the process of building her family, she always tried to instill in all of us wise values for living life; as for instance: to the adults she says: working and good sense can give you anything; to the young she says: avoid bad friendes and do not forget to do your school home work and follow the good path. Life give us the chance to choose; it is up to us to take the decision and follow good advice or not, sometimes it can not be easy, but, if the direction is followed the right way and if the experience is valorized then the final result will be good. BOAS FESTASNATAL FELIZ & PRÓSPERO ANO NOVO DE 2007Nada é melhor nessa vida do que estarmos em harmonia com nós mesmos. Quando estamos de acordo com a nossa consciencia, ou quando estamos do lado do bem, temos mais energia, coragem, vontade e, podemos enfrentar com mais seguridade os caminhos da vida, que nem sempre são como nós pensamos ou desejamos. Para estarmos num estado harmonioso, precisamos de reflectir um pouco nas coisas que fazemos e nos pensamentos que pensamos e, ver se tudo está em conformidade. Quando for de outra maneira, devemos analizar as circunstancias dos fáctos que levaram a isso e pôr tudo numa perspectiva lógica, reflectindo ou comparando os antecedentes em nós mesmos e então podemos chegar a um estado harmonioso.
Por causas das circusnstancias não é fácil mas, meditando e preservando a fé pode ser possivel alcansar um estágio harmonioso onde, podemos estar ou ficar em conformidade lógica com nós mesmos e os designios do nosso Criador; porque ao fim e ao cabo somos todos da mesma videira. Tive este ano o previlégio de ler um livro intitulado Guia de Marcha / Notas da Memória, escrito por um primo meu; a dada altura no livro, há uma frase que diz: "Há mais de um passado". Pois concordo, nesta vida, combinando e balanceando o passado com presente e talvéz com o futuro, podemos todos chegar a um estágio harmonioso. Votos de Boas Festas e um Bom Ano Novo. HAPPY HOLLYDAYSMERRY CHRISTMAS & A GOOD NEW YEAR OF 2007Nothing is better in this life than to be in harmony with ourselves. When we are in accordance with our consciousness , or when we are on the side of good, we have more energy, courage, will, and we can travel with more security the roads of life, which are not always as we think or wish. To be in a state of harmony, we need to think a little about the things we do and on the thoughts we think and, see if everything is in conformity. When it is the other way, we should analyze the circumstances of the facts which made it possible to be that way, and put everything in a logical perspective, reflecting or comparing the antecedents in ourselves, then we can reach a point of harmony.
Because of the circumstances, it is not easy, but meditating issues and preserving the faith, it is possible to reach a harmony state, where we can be or remain in a logically conformity with the Creator wishes; because one way or another we all are from the same vine! This year, I had the privilege to read a book called, Guia de Marcha / Notas de Memoria, that is (Schedule March / Notes of Memory), written by a cousin of mine; in certain instance, in the book there a phrase, which says: (There is more than one past...) Sure, I agree, in this life, combining and balancing the past with present, and perhaps, with the future, we can all reach a harmonious stage. Happy Holidays and a Good New Year to all.
